it's your life
Location: Vancouver, BC
Makes: accessories, mainly necklaces
Nicole’s beautiful jewelry pieces are inspired by her love of both miniatures and working with old things. Currently residing in Vancouver, Nicole is originally from the Philippines, where she studied fine art, with a focus on public performances and art installations. She was also part of an experimental artist run centre in Manila and once moved to the island of Palawan to teach rural youths how to make a livelihood from arts and crafts. Nicole moved to Canada to attend Emily Carr, but her plans of becoming a world-renowned artist (with a degree!) were crushed when pitted against high international student tuition fees and the reality of being a very bad student. Instead, Nicole began making jewelry from her living room, which soon turned into a full-time business.
Her jewellery is made primarily from vintage stock with some new findings mixed in – hence the tagline ‘New Vintage Accessories.’ The vintage brass is cleaned and oxidized to give it a more permanent darker finish.
The name ‘it’s your life’ is inspired by Japanese kawaii, zakka and strange English translations of phrases that can be heard while posing in Japanese photo booths that add hearts, bubbles and pink stars to your photos.
